Hello,
I’m Dr. Hyunwoo Han, Director of Medicell Dental Clinic.
At Medicell Dental, our philosophy is simple: never miss the golden opportunity to save a natural tooth. We believe every patient deserves a treatment plan that is carefully tailored to their individual needs.
Excellent dentistry is not built on clinical experience alone. It begins with accurate diagnosis, reliable data, and meticulous treatment planning.
That is why we introduced a digital intraoral scanner into our digital workflow.
One of the Most Uncomfortable Parts of Dental Treatment
If you’ve ever received dental treatment, you may remember the experience of biting into a tray filled with impression material while waiting for it to harden.
For many people, this process can feel uncomfortable. Some experience difficulty breathing, gagging, or fatigue from keeping their mouth open for an extended period. These unpleasant memories often make future dental visits more stressful.
Fortunately, dental technology continues to evolve.
Today, traditional impressions are being replaced with digital scanning technology that improves both patient comfort and diagnostic precision.
How We Choose Technology at Medicell Dental
At Medicell Dental, we don’t adopt every new piece of equipment simply because it’s new.
Technology is only valuable when it genuinely benefits our patients.
Whenever we consider introducing new equipment, we always ask one important question:
“Will this technology make treatment more comfortable and more accurate for our patients?”
The digital intraoral scanner provided a clear answer.
It allows patients to enjoy a much more comfortable experience while giving our dental team highly accurate digital information for diagnosis and treatment planning.
What Is a Digital Intraoral Scanner?
A digital intraoral scanner is a handheld camera that captures highly detailed images of the teeth and gums, instantly creating a precise 3D digital model of the mouth.
Unlike traditional impression materials, there is no need to bite into bulky trays or wait for the material to set.
Within just a few minutes, we can obtain accurate digital records and immediately review the images together with our patients.
Rather than simply making the process easier, this technology plays an important role in improving diagnostic accuracy and treatment quality.
How Is It Different from Traditional Impressions?
Conventional impressions require trays filled with impression material to remain inside the mouth for several minutes.
During this time, patients may experience gagging, discomfort, or jaw fatigue. Those with sensitive gag reflexes or temporomandibular joint (TMJ) discomfort often find the procedure particularly difficult.
A digital intraoral scanner works differently.
A small scanning camera captures the teeth directly, making the process faster, cleaner, and significantly more comfortable.
If additional information is needed, only the specific area can be rescanned without repeating the entire procedure.
This makes digital scanning especially beneficial for children, older adults, and patients with strong gag reflexes.
Accurate Data Leads to Better Treatment
In dentistry, even the smallest discrepancy can influence the final outcome.
Procedures such as:
-
Inlays
-
Onlays
-
Crowns
-
Bridges
-
Implant restorations
all require highly accurate impressions.
Because digital intraoral scanners create detailed 3D digital records, they help improve the precision of restorations while reducing the likelihood of adjustments or remakes.
The result is a more predictable treatment process and better-fitting restorations.
How We Use Digital Scanning at Medicell Dental
At Medicell Dental, digital intraoral scanning is integrated into many areas of our clinical workflow, including:
-
Fabrication of inlays and onlays
-
Crown and bridge restorations
-
Implant prosthetic planning
-
Clear aligner treatment planning
-
Before-and-after digital treatment comparisons
Digital records also allow us to explain treatment plans more clearly, helping patients better understand their oral condition and the proposed treatment.
The Difference Our Patients Notice Most
Since introducing digital intraoral scanning, we frequently hear comments such as:
“Is it already finished?”
“That was much easier than I expected.”
“It’s so much more comfortable than the old impression method.”
These responses remind us that technological advancement isn’t just about better equipment.
It’s about creating a better experience for every patient who visits our clinic.
Why We Believe in Digital Dentistry
We didn’t introduce digital technology simply to showcase modern equipment.
We chose it because it helps patients receive more comfortable care while allowing our team to provide more precise and predictable treatment.
Great dentistry always begins with an accurate diagnosis.
And accurate diagnosis begins with reliable data collected in the most comfortable way possible.
At Medicell Dental, we remain committed to continually improving our digital workflow so we can provide treatment that is more accurate, more comfortable, and designed for long-term oral health.
Our mission remains unchanged:
To protect every opportunity to save your natural teeth, and to help you make the best decisions for your oral health.
Thank you for reading.
